Jayson and Debby Shobe are the owners of Moccasin Mountain Art Gallery in addition to the Shobe Auction and Realty Company. Shobe Auction and Realty specializes in providing service to farmers and ranchers, as well as collectors and sellers of high-grade antiques, coins, books, and art. In 1991, they opened the doors to their first downtown Shobe Auction office and began offering local artists a chance to display and sell their work, benefitting both the auction office decor and the artists. Soon people were dropping in to see if Jayson and Debby could frame their kid’s baseball picture, a baby announcement, or Grandma’s wedding portrait.
Jayson grew up on a farm/ranch operation close to New Town, North Dakota and graduated from Minot State as a medical technologist. For a number of years he owned and operated Shobe Diagnostic Lab in Lewistown, serving both medical doctors and veterinarians. Jayson is a popular square dance caller, and the family spent countless weekends on the road for a number of years traveling throughout Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Canada. The Lewistown club prospered and grew through the years.
Debby grew up in Kolin, a farming community 23 miles northwest of Lewistown. After graduating from EMC in Billings, she taught for 11 years in various Montana elementary schools, starting first in Paradise, then Red Lodge, and on to three central Montana rural schools--Grass Range, Moore, and Brooks. Debby and Jayson were married in 1979 and their three children grew up working in the family businesses.
Their oldest son Kyle, a graduate of the ag program at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, is now a partner in Shobe Auction and Realty. He also heads up a country band, "Kyle Shobe and the Walk’em Boys" and has recorded a third CD in Nashville. He is a renowned rodeo announcer, whose repertoire includes Cheyenne Frontier Days, Dickinson Rough Rider Days, and Richland Country Rodeo in Sydney, Montana. In 2010, Kyle was named winner of the LMA’s World Livestock Auctioneer Championship in Oklahoma City. From that he has taken his auctioneer career to livestock production sales throughout the region, including the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, & Oregon. In October of 2020, Kyle and his wife Jodie purchased the Lewistown Livestock Auction Yards and will continue the tradition of cattle marketing in the sales ring that began in Lewistown in 1951; Jodie works as office manager. Together they have four children, ages 14 years, 12 years, 9 years, and 6 years.
The Shobe’s younger son Justin worked several summers as a BLM firefighter; he then graduated from Concordia Lutheran College in Moorehead, MN and worked 3-1/2 years as a paramedic and field supervisor with the Health East Medical Ambulance Service in St. Paul, MN. He graduated in August of 2016 as a PA from the University of Washington’s MEDEX program in Spokane. He is now employed by the Neuroscience and Spine Institute at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Montana. His wife Julie specializes as a diabetes educator and leads numerous fitness exercise classes. Their 4-year-old daughter Hazel is anxious to welcome a baby sister this summer. Justin drums occasionally for the "Walk’em Boys" and has been known to entertain during the summer months as a rodeo clown. Both Justin and Julie are involved in running and have completed several marathons over the years. Justin recently added his fourth 100-mile run to his list of accomplishments.
Jayson and Debby’s daughter Kari Beth also graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, and spent the next two years volunteer teaching at a Catholic retreat center for youth near London, England. She then returned to Minnesota where she worked various jobs and was active in youth leadership programs. In 2014, she married Whit Weingart, a rancher from the Winnett area; they then completed further college degrees at the University of New Mexico in Las Cruces. She taught 3rd-4th grade classes for three years in Springfield, Minnesota, where Whit was employed by Fredin Bros. Feeder Cattle Company. They also own and operate an on-line business for organic and natural baby-care products that has developed their marketing skills in the e-commerce industry. In September of 2021, they purchased some acreage (including a cabin!) on the Musselshell River north (WAY north!) of Mosby, Montana, and their first son was born in December of 2020.
